The RAC provides driving services to UK consumers and businesses. These services span roadside recovery, insurances, and service, maintenance and repair (SMR) solutions. In the latter category, our nationwide mobile mechanics now carry out servicing and repairs at our membrs’ home or work.
RAC Breakdown Cover
The RAC serves 13.6 million roadside assistance members. This includes B2B members across motor manufacturer, banking and fleet contracts, as well as direct consumer members. Our HQ outside Birmingham, operates 24/7, 365 days a year and our 1,600 roadside patrols attend over 2 million breakdowns every year. Through our partners on the continent, we also provide market leading assistance to customers travelling to Europe.
RAC Insurance
We also use our motoring expertise and unrivalled customer data to service our members’ insurance needs. Alongside various car insurance products, we offer van, black box, motorbike, learner driver, temporary car, travel and home insurance. Our insurance base totals 700,000 members.
RAC Service, Maintenance and Repair
Our mobile mechanics solution – offering members servicing and repairs at their home or work – launched in 2022. Since then, we’ve grown rapidly to offer a nationwide service, receiving outstanding customer reviews for our service. As well as proactive service and repair bookings, these mechanics allow us to provide a full end to end service for our breakdown members. Any work needed after a breakdown can be booked in with our mobile mechanics on the spot, for maximum convenience. Our mechanics are supported by a network of RAC Approved Garages for work such as MOTs, that need to be done at a garage. These garages all have the RAC seal of approval, and are regularly audited, so members know they’re getting great service at a fair price.
RAC Car Buying
For our members looking to purchase a used car, we offer a range of services for peace of mind. Our network of Approved Dealers offers cars that come with breakdown cover, a warranty, a full inspection and a history check. Outside of the dealer network, members can buy history checks or book inspections, directly with the RAC. So they know they’re buying a car they can rely on. Most recently, we relaunched RAC Cars in 2024, with a new partner Heycar. Offering customers searching online an easy way to find and buy quality used cars, underpinned by Heycar’s superior customer experience and technology capability.
RAC Shop
An online retail website, stocking a wide range of car parts and motoring accessories. Members can also buy car batteries online, which can then be fitted at one of our nationwide approved garages, or by one of our trusted breakdown patrols.
